As a father with two young children in elementary school, education is one of the biggest issues of focus on my campaign. I’ve talked to thousands of voters in District 34, and it’s one of the biggest issues for a majority of them too. Whether you have children or not, the impact of our educational landscape in Nevada affects our healthcare, our economic development, our workforce, and so much more.
Education is the core foundation to a thriving Nevada, but unfortunately, we haven’t treated it that way. I believe it is time we have some tough conversations, start looking forward, and make the right choices to place our children in the absolute best educational environment possible. I have some ideas that I will champion once elected to the Nevada State Legislature, that I believe will do just that.
Restructure Nevada’s School District System
Nevada currently has 17 public school districts, one for each county. This is an archaic and outdated system that hasn’t evolved with the massive population growth of Nevada. For reference, the state of Colorado has 179.
What if Clark County had 60 Public School Districts, instead of 1? Each public school district consisting of 1 high school, 1 middle school, and 4 elementary schools. Think we’d get smaller, more accessible school boards? Would there be more accountability, less financial waste, and less money in those school board elections? As a result, would student outcomes and achievements increase? I believe the answer is yes.
Cap Admin Staff Proportionate to Student Enrollment
Over the past decade, the number of administrative staff in Nevada’s K-12 schools has skyrocketed by 111.95%, while student enrollment has only grown by 9.17%, and teacher hiring has barely kept pace at 9.59%. This huge imbalance means more and more money is being spent on bureaucracy instead of where it’s really needed—in the classrooms.
Teachers are the heart of our education system, and yet we’re seeing far more growth in admin roles than in actual educators. That’s why I’ll propose a bill that limits the number of administrative staff, making sure it’s proportionate to student enrollment. This would ensure that our resources go toward hiring more teachers, increasing teacher pay, supporting students, and reducing class sizes, instead of expanding layers of management. Let’s keep the focus on what really matters: our students and their education.
Implement Universal School Choice
Imagine being able to choose the school that best fits your child’s needs—whether it’s a public, charter, private, or even home school—without being limited by where you live or how much money you make. Every child learns differently, and one-size-fits-all education doesn’t work for everyone. By implementing school choice in Nevada, we can empower parents to make the best decisions for their children’s futures, giving every student a fair shot at success. This isn’t about favoring one type of school over another; it’s about putting families first and ensuring that no child is stuck in a school that doesn’t meet their needs.
Real Solutions to Real Problems
I believe in championing education policy that improves the lives of ALL Nevadans. I am not beholden to unions or party politics; I am fighting for our children, and our state. These are real solutions that can improve education in Nevada, and I will work tirelessly to get them passed.
Help me achieve these goals by voting for me on November 5th to represent District 34 in the State Assembly. You can take it a step further by contributing to my campaign or volunteering to help me reach voters.
Together we can create an educational landscape that every Nevada resident can be proud of.
With gratitude and determination,
Brandon Davis
