Kevin Wall

On this Wednesday, January 24th, good to have you with us. He is a father, he is a husband, he is a multi-business owner who is passionate about serving his community. He is now running for Assembly in District 34 and as you know, we are vetting candidates all across Southern Nevada. Joining us now, Brandon Davis, a candidate for Assembly in District 34. Brandon, good morning.

Brandon Davis

Hey, good morning to you, Kevin. Thank you for having me on, it’s a pleasure.

Kevin Wall

I know that your record of service to your community is unmatched and you have volunteered. You have been a part of all kinds of efforts across Southern Nevada and now you’re running for office. Why are you running for a District 34?

Brandon Davis

Yeah. I mean, Kevin, I chose this race because my children’s safety, their education, their future are just too important. The future of the state is too important, in my opinion. My neighbors and my community deserve much better than what they’re getting now with the current incumbent. Kevin, I first moved into this district in 2013, about 10 years ago, and I’ve watched the current incumbent, the Democrat, vote to make our communities and schools less safe, draft bills that decrease educational standards, and block school choice initiatives as chair of the Assembly Committee on Education. On top of that, she’s endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America, who are outwardly supporting terrorists, and she’s been riddled in scandal actually, apparently acting as some sort of foreign agent to Saudi Arabia in 2017. So, Kevin, this isn’t me being negative, I’m just pointing out facts. But you know, this community, this district, they just deserve better. So that’s why I’m running.

Kevin Wall

Where is 34? Give us the geography.

Brandon Davis

So that’s going to be West Lake Mead to I’d say, Alta/Charleston would be the southern point. Far west we’re going to go Hualapai/Anasazi area and far east we’re going to go Jones. So, it’s the heart of Summerlin. You’re getting as far west as you know, TPC Summerlin and Tivoli Village, that area. Then on the east side, you know the Mirabelli Community Center, Jones, you know, a place that I volunteer at that’s amazing, The Assistance League right there on Charleston. So it’s a very diverse community. The demographic makeup is very, very diverse and we’re excited for what we’re going to do.

Kevin Wall

Brandon, let me ask you by the way, Brandon Davis joining us, the candidate for Assembly District 34. Tell me. I know you’ve been out talking with your future constituents, talking about issues. What is it that resonates with voters in District 34?

Brandon Davis

You know, it’s our biggest issue and our biggest priority, which is education. Every family that we talk to, and I’m a father of two as well, I’ve got a 6 and an 8 year old. So that’s the biggest issue in our household and as we’re going out knocking doors and we’re talking to people in the community, it’s education. You know, what’s going on with the public side, why is there not more choice for parents outside of that, and they just want what’s best for their kids. And so, that’s you know, for me, again with having children, you know in Elementary school, with my wife is an education as well, it’s just a big thing that we talk about on a daily basis. So that’s our number one priority. Besides that, it’s the pocketbooks, it’s the kitchen table issues. It’s the stuff that’s hitting them on a daily basis. The cost of goods, the cost of services, it is, you know, the high gas prices, it’s, it’s things that impact them on a daily basis.

Kevin Wall

I want to ask you about public safety because I think public safety is one, it may not be the number one issue, but it is up there among the top three or four and I’m curious as far as public safety, your thoughts on how that’s going to roll out in this campaign.

Brandon Davis

Yeah, we’ve seen some soft on crime policies as of late. You know, in in the last decade alone, we’ve seen everything from the restorative justice legislation that has come through our Democrat-led majority to, you know, soft on crime prosecutors, to judges. We’ve seen a lot of violent criminals be let back out on our streets. And I think that that’s got to end. You know, for me, when I’m walking around my community, that’s another issue that people are talking about. They want to make sure their cars aren’t getting broken into and they’re not having their homes broken into. We see things on the NextDoor app on different places of this stuff constantly happening. And so, we have to make sure that we’re providing our law enforcement officers, the infrastructure, the financing that they need to be successful to help protect our communities. We have to make sure that we are putting forth legislation in Carson City that is going to hold these people accountable for their actions. That’s the path moving forward, in my opinion.

Kevin Wall

Brandon, let me ask you, you have been a volunteer on so many different issues over the course of years, and I’m curious how it’s different being a volunteer versus being a candidate for public office.

Brandon Davis

Well, obviously there’s a lot of overlap there. You’re giving up your time and parts of your life to serve your community, right? So, there’s a lot that’s there. You know, there’s a lot there if you serve on some committees, there’s a lot of volunteer organizations in Southern Nevada that you can serve on committees, which obviously parlays into the political side and the legislation side. So, there’s a lot of overlap there. I think you know where it comes in the political side and being in the state legislature, we see, you know, with the super majority pretty close that, that what we’ve got now is that it’s very difficult for one side to be able to communicate, to collaborate and to get their bills through. And so, I think that there’s a lot of pushback and I’ve heard you talk with Daniel Gallant and some other folks that are currently in the legislature, and some of the difficult times that they’ve had ,and some of the shenanigans and games that go on, so that is a definite difference between you know, volunteering in your community. But we’re excited for what we’re doing. We’re excited for where we are, where we’ve been, where we’re going to go, and what we’re going to do in this race.

Kevin Wall

You touched on it, and I want to drill down on this. A lot of people will say, well, that’s just the primary election. I’ll wait till November for the general election. Why? Why is it important that people get involved right now? Today, in your race in 34?

Brandon Davis

Yeah, I mean, we don’t have a primary opponent as of this time. We’re excited for that. It’s important for people to get involved because we’ve got an incumbent Democrat that currently holds this seat that again has voted consistently to make our communities and schools less safe and draft bills that decreased educational standards and blocked school choice initiatives. And so, we have to replace this woman, right? And so, the fastest way that we do that is to conserve our resources, get through the primary and put everything that we have at the general. So, to get in now it’s going to allow us to be more successful in the long run.

Kevin Wall

I want to ask you as far as, you know, assuming that you win in November, I’ve got to ask you, that means you’ll be working with Joe Lombardo as the governor. Can you talk a little bit about what’s going to be at stake in November relative to working with Governor Joe Lombardo?

Brandon Davis

Yeah, I mean, you know he’s talked about it a lot, those 75 vetoes in this last Legislative session were huge, and it’s something that he’s not proud of. He’s said it, you know, himself. That you know, this is 1-sided government full of bad bills, cronyism, and corruption, it’s not an exciting thing that he had those veto 75 bills. It’s so important that we have a balanced, fair government that is going to protect those 75 vetoes. You know, we’re literally one seat away from a super majority in the legislature. So, it is, you know, for the fairness of you know, most. The majority of the state are nonpartisan voters right, there’s a lot of independents. This is a very purple state. A lot of libertarian-minded folks and so for us to have a balanced government, it’s so important that we do not continue to allow the Democrats to have a majority. And so, you know that’s what we’re doing our part here in Assembly District 34. To make sure that we flip this seat, which we’re going to, and be a champion for things like school choice, be a champion for pro-business policies and economic diversity, be a champion for safer communities, all the things that that Governor Lombardo has talked about recently, we’re going to be side by side with him through the entire time.

Kevin Wall

What is it that your campaign needs? I know you have no primary opponent yet. We’ll see if that holds up, but looking ahead to November, what is it that your campaign is going to need from my listeners who live in 34, or maybe that don’t live in 34?

Brandon Davis

That’s a great question. You know we’ve been fortunate enough to have the endorsement of Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony, of State Controller Andy Matthews, and Daniel Gallant, a state legislator, but those are great. And so, we’re going out and talking to every voter, letting them know that we’ve got the support of these folks, right? So, we have to knock every door, we have to make every call, we have to touch on every voter in the district multiple times between now and November. So, I’m calling on anybody that’s listening to this show right now to support our winning campaign. They can go to electbrandondavis.com, they can volunteer. We’ve got different, you know, in home meet and greets. We’re doing fundraising, you know, just showing up to an event, lots of different things like that. And of course, you know, we’re raising as much funds as possible as we try to, again, impact every single voter in this district. So those are the most important things for us right now.

Kevin Wall

Will you be outspent in this district?

Brandon Davis

Not if I can handle it, absolutely not. I mean, it’s our goal. We’re going to raise more money in this race than any Republican in the last 3 to 4 elections. So, you know, we’re going to do everything absolutely possible to make sure that we win this race and flip this seat.

Kevin Wall

One more time. How can folks reach out to you? How can they help you?

Brandon Davis

Yeah. So our website is electbrandondavis.com. They can find us on social media. There’s lots of different ways to get in touch. Our phone number is right on the website. You can text us, call us, shoot an e-mail, anything. We are open for communication. We want to hear your ideas. If you’re in the district and you’ve got ideas or things that are impacting you, that’s one of the big things as we’re going out, knocking doors and talking to folks. We’re asking them what are the issues that mean the most to you? I mean, I’ve got a lot of issues that I think are important, but at the end of the day it’s the constituents who matter. So, if you’re in this district and you’re listening, please e-mail me. Call me and let me know your thoughts. What issues are impacting you at your kitchen table? And I’d love to talk with you, but electbrandondavis.com is the website.

Kevin Wall
